How to remove holograms from the car body
INTRODUCTION
The holograms are imperfections formed by very little swirls joined together. These micro-defects are not visible at the human eyes. In fact, they appear as haloes on the car body. They are visible especially on dark paints, or on bright colours, when the car is brought in the sunlight.

Generally, holograms are generated by the application of a high cutting compound. In addition, some mistakes during the working process could increment the probability of holograms creation. For example:
- Wrong compound chosen.
- Use a dirty/worn out/low quality pad.
- Too much pressure applied by the operator.
In every case, don’t worry. These defects could be easily removed through a short polishing process, applying a refinishing polish on the car body. We’re talking about compounds that contains nano-abrasive particles combined with high performance polishing agents, that allow to obtain a flat and shiny surface.
POLISHING CHOICE
In these cases, there are two possible alternatives. The choice depends on the result you desired.
If is desired to remove the holograms, and at the same time leave a smooth protective film on the surface, the choice will be PAICAR04. This polish contains waxes and no-volatile silicones in its formula. These agents can brighten colour and shine of the car body.
If the goal is to only remove holograms, without adding some covering agents, you need to use PAICAR03. Its formulation is composed by nano-abrasive agents, that are effective in the holograms & light opacity removal. It’s better to use PAICAR03 if you want to apply nano-ceramics protection after the polishing process.
TOOLS CHOICE
In these cases, it’s suggested to use the roto-orbital polishing machine. This tool is more indicated for the refinishing jobs (look at our article related to the polishing machine choice). However, thanks to the advanced technologies brought from the DA pads (open cell and air circulation system, as explained in this article) it’s possible to perform a refinishing process also using the rotative polishing machine, in combination with the S15 backplate.
WORKING PROCESS
- Adapt the pad on the backplate.
- Apply a small quantity of compound on the pad.
- Turn on the polishing machine, keeping a low speed.
- Gradually increase the speed
- Make crossed movements (right-left, up and down)
- At least, clean up using a microfiber cloth
